The little critter big enough to change the climate.
Feeding it could fix our problems for free.
To continue our series on future technologies that people are not talking enough about, let’s take a look at an unexpected carbon capture solution — a way that avoids many of the problems that plagues the traditional methods, while using things that we already have too many of. Surprisingly, even its side-effects would be mostly positive, for everybody. Even for oil companies.
The Problem(s)
The CO2 we keep releasing into the atmosphere is a problem, and most of the world recognizes it as such, which is why the Paris Agreement exists. However, not only are we failing to meet the agreement’s goals, the goals themselves are only half of what is necessary to slow climate change, according to Sir Robert Watson. In January, Elon Musk has announced a 100 million dollar prize for a carbon capture technology on Twitter.
However, this is easier said than done. We have three technical problems:
1. Energy
The main reason we put the CO2 into the atmosphere is this: combining carbon with oxygen — aka “burning stuff” — gives us a lot of energy. If you want to…
